Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)

Saigon, now officially known as Ho Chi Minh City, is Vietnam’s largest and most vibrant city. The streets are full of scooters and the air is filled with the smell of street food. The city is a melting pot of Vietnamese, Chinese and French influences, which can be seen in the architecture, food and culture.

Visit the War Remnants Museum:

This museum is a must-see for anyone interested in the history of the Vietnam War. It provides an insight into the Vietnamese perspective of the war, with exhibits on the American bombing of the country, the use of Agent Orange and the lives of Vietnamese soldiers and civilians.

Visit the Notre Dame Cathedral:

This Gothic-style cathedral was built by the French in the 1880s and is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. It is located in the heart of the city, next to the Central Post Office.

Visit the Central Post Office:

This beautiful building was also built by the French in the late 19th century. It is worth a visit for its architecture and because it is one of the few remaining examples of French colonial architecture in the city.

Visit the Reunification Palace:

This is the former presidential palace of South Vietnam. It was here that the Vietnam War ended when the North Vietnamese tanks crashed through the gates. The palace has been preserved as a museum, with the rooms and furnishings left as they were on that day in 1975.

Visit the Jade Emperor Pagoda:

This is one of the most beautiful and atmospheric temples in the city. It is dedicated to the Jade Emperor, the supreme deity in Taoism. The temple is full of elaborate statues and carvings, and is a peaceful oasis in the busy city.
