Hue, Vietnam

Hue is the former imperial capital of Vietnam and is located in the central part of the country. The city is situated on the banks of the Huong River (Perfume River) and is well known for its beautiful architecture and historical monuments. The city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993 and is definitely worth a visit if you are interested in Vietnamese history and culture.

The main attractions in Hue are the Citadel, the Imperial City, the Forbidden Purple City, the Tombs of the Emperors, and the Thien Mu Pagoda. The Citadel is a large complex of palaces and temples that was the home of the Nguyen Dynasty emperors. The Imperial City was the political and administrative center of the Nguyen Dynasty and is surrounded by a moat and high walls. The Forbidden Purple City was the innermost part of the Citadel and was off-limits to everyone except the royal family. The Tombs of the Emperors are a series of elaborate mausoleums where some of the Nguyen Dynasty emperors are buried. The Thien Mu Pagoda is a beautiful Buddhist temple that is located on the banks of the Huong River.

There are many other things to see and do in Hue besides visiting the historical sites. You can take a boat ride on the Huong River, go biking or hiking in the nearby countryside, or visit one of the many museums in the city. Hue is also a great place to try some of the local cuisine, which is renowned for its use of fresh herbs and spices.
